Found this for sale, look familiar to anyone here? 54 caliber,1 1/8 barrel 34 inches long. Trying to find maker but haven't heard back from seller,thought I would give it a try here.

Hard to tell without makers mark or name on the rifle.

I do believe the breech is an old Sharon breech and the lock plate looks like the old L&R Hawken lock. The hammer is different, though.

The butt plate may be a custom piece or a commercial one that has been heavily modified. I don't recognize it as one of the typical commercial offerings.

The parts I recognize plus the pewter nose cap probably dates the rifle to the 1970's or 1980's when those parts were readily available and pewter nose caps were popular.

Nice looking vintage contemporary rifle. I'm surprised we don't see more of these because a lot of people were making custom Hawken rifles back then.

Phil, that is somewhat surprising to me,too,about more vintage contemps showing up. There are lots of em out there,maybe the families of the orig owners aren't ready to let go of em yet. I see this rifle on either gbr or gunsint ,seemed to have a reasonable price.Dave

Just talked with the seller, he's had the barrel out of the stock and it's not marked anywhere. Is this pretty normal among builders?

The owner responded to me , the rifle is 12lbs., no maker info. As mentioned before. Too much of a man rifle for an old grunt like me.

The lock may be one of mine.The small screws and the small diameter of the pin from the
upper limb of the mainspring looks like my work. Only one way to find out.

This rifle was likely built back in the day when the IRS was after John Bivins and others for Federal Firearms Excise Tax. Many builders opted not to sign their barrels in fear of the possibility that the IRS might come after them.

Some barrels aren't deeply marked, and if filed or polished on the bottom the logo can get faint. A Green Mountain "GM" logo is a good example. It can get missed unless under strong light. Just a thought.

That Hawken looks a bit like a Ted Fellows that Buck Buchanan had a little while back. That one was marked though.

Yes,they are marked internally with the "Roller" in a semi circle and a date
or USA inside the name.

If I remember correctly the lock and triggers were by L&R. Don't know who made the breech.. Mtn Meek may remember

The rectangular piece of iron shown between the tang and lock is their version of an entry thimble.

Owner looked over the rifle and the only marking on the rifle are on the inside of the lock marked C Naquin. Any ideas?

Never heard of that name in a lock or anything else.Probably one of a kind to expedite the job.

I've looked around and can't find the name either,after your earlier comment I was hoping it was your lock Mr Roller.It is a good looking rifle and the price is good but with so much unknown I'm kind of gun shy on the purchase, and I'm wanting one bad so trying not to jump in over my head. I'm a greenhorn in custom guns,had a few so called Hawken production rifles,but looking around on here has me wanting one bad,just don't want to buy one and be sorry. Thanks for all the help from everyone in this thread and the other threads where I have asked questions about Hawken rifles,your patience is appreciated, and for sharing your knowledge. Unlike many sites I have visited,you guys always make one feel welcome with your willingness to help.
