I like those ideas, especially the welding.  Others thoughts on a bit of weld on the back end of the lock plate?

We are planning a trip to Summerville, SC With possible detour through Morehead City,NC sometime this summer, but surely there is someone closer to you that  could get to you sooner than that.  Of course south west VA is not terribly far away from you
