Adrie,
Plesase post the video pictures that you e mailed me of the lock sparking with your hand cut flints. I am sure all ther ALR will enjoy seeing them. Adrie picked up a flint rock that he found in some one's garden, chipped a piece for his hand made miniature lock and it worked perfectly.

We need to start making some 40% size clay pigeons for Adre. And maybe some #14 or so birdshot.

I am amazed at his ability to make a working replica this size - and all the metal work so beautifully done.

Yesterday I found a nice piece of stock.
I hope the grain of the wood is what I have in mind.

Those little locks are beautiful.I have made perhaps 3 very small locks
in my 50 years of lock work and I won't do any more of them.

I am busy with the walnut stock. The walnut is not my best friend, it splinters very easy.

For distraction I have made a powder horn. I know this is not the site for it, but I will show it.
The powder horn is on full scale. This time I would know how it feels in the full scale world!

Adrie, I don't see any trips to the Netherlands in my future, but would truly enjoy meeting you and talking workmanship. What you are doing making these scale firearms is really amazing.

I am sure that the Netherlands, like Great Britain and some other European countries, has limits on what you can make in the way of firearms. Would those limitations be one of the reasons that you make scale-size weapons?

Besides your steel work, you also do fascinating brass and wood work. And your engraving - I am very envious!

Adrie,
If I may offer some advice, have a look at your moulding around the lock. That moulding should be super skinny. Have a look at Dave Person’s English fowler tutorial.
If I had sent you that Kibler stock already, you would see what i mean.
On a full sized gun, the moulding surrounding the lock might be 1/8th of and inch (31Millimetres) or even less. On your 1/5th scale guns I guess that would be about 6 Millimetres.
Also note how there are no flat surfaces on Dave Persons gun, specifically from the lock mortise into the wrist.

You do great work, and I have been telling everyone here at the gunsmithing seminar in Kentucky about you. Keep it up!

I made a drawing to show my point.

It’s a terrible drawing, but still shows what I mean.
Skinny lock mortise, but maybe a bit thicker at the nose, like on Dave’s guns.

Also, the wood on the side of your tang is flat. In other words, it is straight across all the way. It should angle down. If you fix the wide lock mortise, then this will fix itself. The wood on either side of the tang should angle down fairly sharply, in a straight line to the lock mortise.

I hope I have shown this in the drawing. The picture is from the rear of the gun, looking at the tang.

On the drawing of Track and Wolff you can not see everything.

Only his barrel tang is higher because he used a moveable barrel.
I use pins for the barrel because right now I do not dare to make barrel keys.
On your drawing I see a beavertail. Is it necessary to use this?

I just drew the beaver tails out of habit. I don’t know enough about fowlers to give you a definite answer. I certainly think some fowlers had them, but not all of them.

I was hoping someone else would chime in with a good answer to that question.

The carving is not that easy, as I told it's not my wood.
One wrong move and it splinters, but I take my time.

that sight looks good! I like the barrel under lugs as well.

I think you did the tang carving after I saw the gun at your house right? The carving is nice. I cannot believe how you do that carving so small!

Are you going to bore that barrel out so it is thin at the muzzle? That would make it much lighter and it will balance well!
