Wow, but not surprised, as a poster over on the MZL Forums recently showed pictures of a newer Lyman (Investarms) Great Plains Rifle with a split tang.
All of my muzzleloaders will shoot into one ragged hole ALL DAY LONG ... it's just the 2nd or 3rd & other shots that tend to open up my groups ... !

I'll have to send back the Deerstalker I bought. The serial number is one of the bad ones. Good thing I haven't shot it yet. This is what's happening. Breech plug is breaking off.

Has Investarms made a similar recall, considering they make all the Lyman products?  Folks who have them should also be aware of the problem.

I don't know. I haven't heard anything about that. Lyman might know.

Great! They won't have any barrels for two months. I was going to start shooting it next week. Now, nothing to shoot.

Has Investarms made a similar recall, considering they make all the Lyman products?

Investarms also sells them under their own brand name and also through Cabelas and Dixie gun Works.

Not Cabelas anymore. Cabelas switched to Pedersoli.

I would say this is a repeat on the very old T/C problem. OVER tightened breech
plugs creating a fractured last thread.Has anyone been hurt or has anyone driven
a screw extractor (easy out)into this mess and seen how tight it really is???
Production + uninformed worker is a disaster waiting to happen.

I haven't heard if anyone was hurt. I decided I don't want a Lyman product anymore and sent it back.

Probably shouldn't blame Lyman. It's an Investarms fault.

Thank you for posting, I have not shot my Great Plains Rile yet, going to call this morning.  It has a serial number within the range.

They'll take your information and at some point will send you the packing and label to send back the barrel. They said about two months for the new barrels to come in.

I was too impatient and sent it back to MidSouth where I bought it and swapped for another gun. Lyman won't buy it back.

Exactly what it looks like to me Bob.  Over torquing to "compensate" for fitment.

Got the same timeline from Lyman, about 2 weeks to get the boxes and 2-3 months to get the barrel back.  the service rep said something about getting it back from Italy.  Poor customer service, may be the last rifle I buy from them.

Update on Lyman Recall
« Reply #14 on: March 31, 2018, 02:57:19 PM »
Finally received received my tube to mail back the barrel and tang.  It only took 24 days to receive since I called Lyman.  I will keep you posted on how long it takes for them to check, repair.  The customer service rep told me to expect 2-3 months.  Looks like I will miss hunting woodchuck with it this spring.

Sent Wrong Barrel
« Reply #16 on: May 12, 2018, 02:45:00 PM »
I received a barrel yesterday from Lyman, I was excited to finally shoot my gun I bought in January.  They sent me a barrel for a Trade rifle not the Plains rifle that I own.  Called customer service and explained the problem.  After 10 minutes and being sent to voice mail, once when I was on hold, they finally straightened out the problem.  The customer service rep explained they did not have any in stock and will try to expedite the recall replacement.  To be determined how long it will take.
