tang not seated in motise
«

I am building a full stock hawkin fintlock rifle with a hooked breech from TOW. I glued the tang to the barrel for inletting. I made sure the barrel is seated in the barrel channel of the stock. The problem that I am having is that the tang is not seated in the tang mortise because I made the mortise to deep. Can I build the mortise back up with a bedding material or a fine sawdust so the tang can be properly seated?
Somebody please help. HBRyder

Add wood to the mortise, and re-inlet. Don't use plastic wood or bedding compound. Use Elmer's white wood glue or Titebond for your glue. You are using a pre--carved stock, yes?

Art is not an object. It is the excitement inspired by the object.

Thank you Taylor, that really helped. And yes it is a preinletted stock. And my second attempt. HBRyder
