Evening all,
Just wondering if anyone has used Jack Brooks bronze -plate lock ? I think it comes as a casting set does it not?
Have two old barrels to make up into sporting guns, One is marked for Thomas Bannister, (App to Robert Silk 1668, then Rob't Brooke. Free of Gunmakers Co 1676, Hudson Bay 1685 -1701 etc etc.)
It's old and it's long, just under 54" and I'd need a suitable lock. About 14 bore I think. How do you gents think Jack's lock would work?.....Any other suggestions for a lock?
Also another barrel I am unsure of. V faint London proofs, and apparently TP in a heart and I do not see that in Blackmore. It is only about 44" but has a tanged plug. not set up for a break-off, so it too would need a pretty early lock.
TP May be Thomas Peele. If Thomas Peele, 1721 -30 Whitehaven. (Could I get away with a Jim C R-faced English on this one?)
Suggestions on locks most appreciated, or how you found Jack's lock to put together and function.
Thank you for looking ,
Richard.
Lock in question;
BTW, the "TP" 44" barrel is thick at the breech, (1- 1 /2" deep, & 1 7/16" across where the round is flattened for the lock. Also made Spanish fashion in 4 or 5 sections.
