Kibler kit unbreeching barrel

It looked like my liner wouldn't make it through the barrel on my Kibler rifle kit so I didn't unbreech the barrel.

I thought I better take a look just to be sure and can see this down the barrel at the breechplug, something is not right.



Have you guys been unbreeching these barrels during a kit build or have you noticed the liner going into the barrel rifling?

Got the breech plug off yet? What was that stuff, and what is going on on the opposite side?

So, I got out my Rice barrel clamp and Rice breechplug wrench and a 3 foot piece of pipe and proceeded to remove the breech plug. It was perfectly indexed and a perfect fit to the breech face and not much more than finger tight.

All the others I have pulled took two two men and a boy to get them out.

Anyway what ever the "thing" was it fell out and disappeared when I pulled the plug.  There is some flash metal in the bore from where the liner hole was drilled but that can be easily ground off with a small diamond bit.

I think what you see  across the bore is dirt, one cleaning patch and it was gone.

Another update; The metal was easily flicked off with a small file and the breech plug just felt like finger tight with a 3' pipe on it. It has just the right torque it not to hard not to easy to remove.

False alarm, I should have checked further before I posted, sorry.

I pull the breech plug and check the fit on every barrel I get.  You can't count on all of them being perfect.  Anyone can have an off day once in a while.

All's well that ends well... Those Rice barrel plugs are done right, I always remove them to check things and to polish the face, I have never had a problem with the breeching.

Good luck with the Kibler kit - they are really nice.

This is a .32, the liner had about 1/16" to go before it would be in the rifling.

WHAT liner? Are these barrels lined with a rifled sleeve or
The overly tight breech plug makes no sense at all.I still think a
patched round ball or even a heavy bullet will move forward without
pushing the plug backward.

Bob, I believe he is referring to the vent liner.
