Just finished Silver flintlock for son/grandson
« on: March 24, 2018, 12:07:30 AM »
Hello all, specially you, CadesCove fiddler, here are pics of the rifle I have been working on for my son and grandson. It is the long gun In the white with the Ithaca Hawken pics.
This one has been in the works for a couple years, NO time book kept on thisn!

Built from a blank that was almost too narrow,a recycled 36 cal barrel by Jim McCartney, French Creek WV in 1980,from a Sharon blank.
It was built to copy the walnut rifle built in late 80's by Bob Walden for my daughter. The boys liked shooting it,the percussion one, I just made this one and copied her rifle close as I could, except this one is in silver, with a nice flintlock.Havent shot it in yet, soon as weather co operates.
Specs are :OAL 55"
              LOP 13 1/2 "
              7 lbs
    barrel 13/16 x 39" x .36 cal

This barrel was on a Dixie rifle from my late Marine bud Paul. I wasn't going to let the barrel get away from  me,so I rebarreled the Dixie with a new Colerain, and built this gun for the boys-really young men.

I am in need of someone to nicely engrave the cheekpiece oval with my sons and g/sons name etc.
Bob Walden engraved the silver work on the rifle in the pattern of the walnut perc rifle, mostly.

Thanks for all your help and lessons over these past 8 years. Best regards, Dave F 8) 8)

Well done, Dave - I expect they are both excited to get their hands on it, and will treasure it for life!

Thanks, Bud.Funny thing is that I really like to build long rifles. Especially SMRs.
I have the walnut 50 full stock I had at the  CLA show, and a cherry one flinter, too,
of same pattern
.I just get side tracked on them Hawken guns..
Have a goodun, Dave
