Tannins
« on: April 10, 2018, 01:24:52 AM »
Ok, got the bug to try some tannin wash as a pre-stain treatment. Remembered the local
Beer  and wine making supply store.. shout out to Bacchus and Bareleycorn  in Shawnee Kansas! Picked up an ounce of wine tannins, Spanish Chestnut , for a lil more than $3 .
Probably more than I'll ever use up?

So, what strengths are you guys using for your solutions? Have access to ultra pure water from our lab.

I've been using about. Teaspoon in a cup of distilled water. Allow to dry, then apply ferric nitrate. Let dry and blush.

Indirect answer.  I used tannins but am unsure the potency- I used 5-litre box wine, red of course. No mixing, no measuring, no mess (not much).

Tasty too.

I have used balsamic vinegar to raise the grain and as a tannin before staining.
