I posted awhile ago that I got a Tip Curtis French fowler. It was in the white and I finished it up a couple weeks ago. Metal was finished to 320grit and then red scotch brite to blend it. Wood is true-oil rubbed lightly with red scotch write. I made the silver sight following one of the tutorials on this site. The ramrod tip is buffalo horn. The info on here is outstanding. Was able to find most answers to my questions I would say.

I was able to pattern it a week ago. This is 25yds. 70gr fffg swiss and 1.5oz copper plated #6 shot. Two overshot cards on the powder and one over the shot. Got about 15 hits in the head and neck.

Then a couple days ago I was able to get out for my first morning of turkey hunting this year. I sat in my blind for about 4hrs total. Ended up call this jake. He came in silent as I was calling to some toms across the draw. He is probably the smallest tom in the area but I am super excited to have him. One shot at 12yds did the trick. Hoping to get one more and hopefully a big one. Thanks for looking!

Thanks guys! I have really enjoyed shooting it. I am looking forward to working on a roundball load after turkey season. My first flintlock and I must say I may be addicted. Pretty awesome!

I do like your gun; and I'd take that turkey any day, any time.

Always nice to put up some meat with a new gun.

I'll also chime in with the kudos --- you did a very nice job on that gun and the turkey ;). I think you NEED a flintlock rifle (or two) to go along with it ;D.

I concur. I would really like to build a chambers Virginia rifle. It was good to do the kit in the white but it definitely left me wanting to put my own together.

Shot roundballs today. Bad rest on first high shot. Then put two together. Got cocky and put somehow through the 4th shot to the left. Not sure what happened there. 50yd Target. I was shooting 90gr fffg Swiss with 3 overshot cards on powder and one card over a bareball. Shows some promise I would say!

Any tips on consistency with a smoothbore?

Shoot more shots and keep track of your 10 shot groups with different load combinations .  :)

I'd reckon to also try a ball with e a felt wad in front and behind.
Nice thick wad especially behind, and lubed before the top wad.
Rear felt wad makes a nest and keep ball centred as it goes up the spout.

Worth trying as all these guns like different things.
