Wow, this is just about the optimum gun for anyone who wants a sweet handling in the bush bigger bore gun. The only thing wrong with it is that it isnt mine. What a great gun. Even the small details look like big details. Good luck with the sale Mike. Best wishes.  :)

Yes the rifle in the for sale forum. Details like screw heads, trigger plate, and muzzle treatment to mention a few. I posted here so as not to distract from Mikes for sale post.

VERY NICE RIFLE!!!  This piece, not only is a study in design, and  the execution is SUPERB!!  I can see how it would "feel" as good as it looks. This is one of those rifles that really makes  me wish I could hold it for a LONG while. Extremely well done Mike!!!!!!   Nate

Hi,
That little rifle is gorgeous and extremely well done.  It is not English, however.  It is a fabulous little German rifle.

Mike can work in about any style but when he does his own creations it reminds me of Jim Chambers’ work.

Thanks for all the kind words guys..I really appreciate it..It is however taken architecturally from an English rifle that I have had pictures of for several years..I added my own designs on it but the stock profile was taken from the original..I have a few pictures of it but somehow lost most of them from my phone.

I,m wondering if it wasn,t J.N.George in his book English Guns and Rifles that had a picture of some English rifles with a few Continental characteristics.

The English made quite a few sporting rifles that were in the "German" style thst look just like Jaegers until you examine them closely then you can see the English pop out at you but they are still English guns. Just like early American guns displayed German, English,French,Dutch, etc. Influences but they are still American guns.

Hi Mike.
I don't see any British proof marks on the barrel. It could be that a German maker acquired a fine English lock to mount on a rifle but if it was a British product there should be proof marks.

If it was made before 1813 and outside London not necessarily.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for that info.  I have seen some English fowlers not made in any of the big cities without apparent marks.  I guess someone could also buy a German barrel and have it stocked in England in the "German" fashion. I have listings for several Stephens in Bristol during the early 1800s.

Beautiful work Mike, and a veryb nice origijal English rifle.

Dave,

I think you have it for sure.
German barrels were held in high regard in England, and it is not uncommon to see a German barrel stocked up in England in either English or German style.
There was quite a fad at one time for Germanic rifles, (In the UK)and many well known makers, (inc. Twigg)  produced German "jaeger" style rifles.
I believe Mike's photos above are one of these.

Really nice rifle and begs to be shouldered!

Richard.

I saw this little rifle a few years ago at the CLA show. I was so impressed by it that  I took these pics. I think it may be by the same maker as the pics Mike posted. After comparing my pics , I believe this is the same rifle. The owner let me handle it. It really handled nicely!!  .  Nate

Seems very baroque in styling and earlier than the lock. Great gun.

Thanks for all the information on this rifle, Mike. Without receiving such information, we would be lost in our ignorance.
