Anyone have any ideas on this old beast?

Anyone know a maker or where it was made? 43 inch hand forged bbl, 1 3/8 at breech, down to 1 1/4, and flared to 1 5/16. Bore measures .690 with typical seven groove Ky. style rifling. All iron hardware.

That sure is a big rough old SMR. The buttplate look very Soddy Daisy to me, but I just know enough to prove I don’t know enough.

Iron mounting w/full stock suggest Tennessee style to me, though the caliber seems large.

this to me is not a beast, but a beautiful southern mountain rifle, if it is all original. making jokes about this rifle is ok with me,but what do you think the old builder would think about it.

It truly is a beautiful SMR,but I wouldn't doubt the builder may have called it The Beast himself. I have built a couple big bores that are called The Beast. I even had a 2004 svt Cobra that was named The Beast,for similar reasons.
