very elaborate longrifle
« on: May 18, 2018, 05:22:39 PM »
After two + years, I have just finished the most elaborate longrifle I will probably ever make.  I guess you could label it "Contemporary" as it is not a copy of any original longrifle.

Hi Peter,
That is impressive and nicely done within the historical context of the type of decoration and motifs!

It certainly is a work of art that's for sure ;) 8). Great work - now put it in a museum so it don't get dirty ;D.

Although I generally don't like contemporary styled work, I do like this one. It's  artistically well designed.

Typically I go for iron mount, plain rifles. Wouldn't be able to see the target from looking around to see who was gawking at me with that fine rifle.  One anyone would love to own.

It is fabulous, Peter! I think it has every bell & whistle known to man, yet you have blended it all together into a beautiful composition.
A real tour de force, even for you!

That Peter, is a marathon of construction!  I suspect that it evolved over the two years with new elements being considered and added as it went along.  Or maybe you had the complete picture in your mind when you laid the wood to the saw.  Either way, a mountain of work.

I copied the image of the gun from beneath in the lock area, to point out that you need to cut about 3/32" off the end of your forward lock nail...it is pushing the frizzen spring away from the plate.

I can also see the frizzen being impinged upon; a minor fix.  That beautiful rifle is a work of art that does not belong in the woods; it is a rifle meant for display and to be viewed.

Truly amazing and so artistically put together - what a monumental job! Well done.

The capabilities of man are truly astounding!  I have always enjoyed seeing what amazing things that have been created and have always pondered deeply about the amount of work that went into them.

Peter, you have really done it to me this time!!! :o

That is a great piece of work and it should be in a museum somewhere.  You are one of the few high art builders in the world and I admire your craftsmanship a lot.  There are thousands of plain guns but only a few dozen in that category.   I couldn't believe what I was looking at until I found out who you were. Thanks for showing peter.  I sure would like to see some closeup high res. photos of that gun. Jerry Huddleston

There sure is a lot to look at and appreciate. Aside from all the nice carving, inlays, and engraving, I really like the color of the finish on the stock and the finish on the barrel. The fire blued screw heads are a nice touch too.

This rifle is beautiful.

It reminds me of rifles I have seen in French Museums that were made for kings.

Well done, you are truly a master craftsman.
