As a kid, I would study Joe Kindig's book. Kindig makes the distinction between artistic design and technical execution. Your rifle has both. You have built an amazing rifle.

Beautiful rifle, Peter.  Will you be taking it to Dixons?

This rifle along with the rifles of others posted on American Longrifles prove to me the golden age of longrifles is now.

Wow!!!
Definitely talent on loan from God!
I could never own such a piece! I would become a complete basket case from the fear of damaging it!
At some point I would either drop it or bang it into something.
I could never forgive myself!
Love it!!!!!!!!!

Hello Everyone,  Thank you all for your praise - very much appreciated!  Taylor, the forward lock bolt was shortened after the photos were taken, and before the customer arrived to pick it up.  Taylor, he comissioned at least one Hawken from you.  He shot it here, and was very pleased with it.  He has already cancelled his appearance at the Milan (Italy) kinife shoe so he can harvest a deer with it this Fall - so no museum, fellows.  If he hurts the gun, he knows someone that can fix it.....  Jerry, if you email me at p.alexander00@gmail.com, I will be happy to forward my son Andrew's photos of the rifle.  As for specs, the stock is a $1000 piece of quarter sawn sugar maple tiger maple - the most beautiful stock I have ever worked - would hold the most subtle carving, but also very hard and brittle.  A very nice Rice swamped .50 caliber barrel, small Siler brass plate lock, butt plate and trigger guard from Reaves Goehring.  Everything else is my work.  I aimed for that fine balance which Shakespeare advocated these many centuries ago: "rich, but not gaudy".  Again, all, thanks for the comments.   PAA

Words are inadequate but that is outstanding work! Congratulations on your creation. I have a hunch that longrifle will be admired long after all of us are gone.

A Tour De Force indeed, would love to see it in the flesh.

Thanks for the reply Peter.  Wolfe was a great client to work with, and I'm pleased that his contemporary collection includes one of yours and my rifles.  I'd love to see a picture of him, his deer, and the rifle.  I wish him the best of luck.

Taylor, I am proud to own one of your rifles.  I have been fortunate enough to purchase rifles from a number of the great makers on this forum, this one from Peter being the latest. Hopefully I will be able to add a few more.
I am looking forward to a summer of shooting, and of course the hunting season. Should I be lucky enough to bag a deer, I will be glad to send you a photo.

Wolfe
