Wooden Bullet Tubes

Saw an original in the book "Gettin The Lead Out" by Karl Smith and decided to build a few. The smaller diameter are up to .50 cal and the larger are up to .62. Length is 4.5" +/- and they sit very well in a pouch. The example in the book is dated as approx. 1810. I used walnut, maple and ash. Balls pour very easily and hold enough for a hunt.

I do the same with cane or bamboo. Patched ball on one end, powder in the other, stopper keeps the powder in the tube. Pop the cork, pour the powder and drive the patch and ball out through the tube. Easy peasey.

Beautiful work, and a good idea! I made an 8-shot bullet board for my .36, and one of those will let me carry a few extra without weighing the pouch down.

Nice work Ron, I saw them in the book and thought they would work well.

Ron made one for me, and I love it. Very compact and a great way to carry extras. I think these will all be gone before CLA, so Ron will have to head back out to the shop. ;-)

Very nice, that would be handy in a pouch. I like that idea....

The wooden tubes are very nice.
A couple companies have been making those out of plastic & copper since the late 70's - maybe earlier.

Very interesting. Can any body document them back as far as 1740? Besides bulky Apostles, I mean...
