Jerry, As always, beautiful stuff!! The sight looks like something must pivot, but I can't figure out what and why?? Probably me, been sick for a few weeks, could you show another view? Thanks, your work is always inspiring.

It's stuck on with double sided tape.....but the fit of the tape to the side plate is splendid ;D

Those are magnificent!  Did you cast or chisel (or both) the sideplate?  I cannot tell from the photo, but is it polished steel or silver? I love the treatment of the screw heads.  They are creative, unusual, and superbly designed. Everything goes together without the slightest feeling of being too extravagant.
Someday, I am going to try and make a pistol in the style of Piraube and I will be coming back to these photos for inspiration.
I am in awe.

My compliments!
May I ask, with such a delicate side plate, other than the lock screws, what holds such a fragile (looking) side plate in place?
I realize the inletting does, to a great degree.
But what stops it from curling?
Again, truly amazing?
I wish I had enough years left, to acquire such a beautiful talent.

Jerry....just some ho-hum, run of the mill stuff for you, but so far above most of our abilities.   The only thing I would have done different would be the lock bolts.    I think nice domed head bolts that were heat blued would look great with all
that silver...........Don

Don and friends.
   I still have to case harden the screws and then I will temper and heat blue them. I didn't cast the side plate it is silver. I never had the time when he wanted it done. A gun maker friend and customer of mine had it cast and he did the inletting. His name is James Schultz. I am just doing some engraving and gold work on it for him. He also did the site except for the engraving. The original sight came from Track, I think.  It is one of their Jaeger sights.   This gun will most likely be at the Reno Engravers Guild show this next time. I will probably do the precious metal work on the Barrel and the lock. This gun will probably be worth $100,000.00 but it will never be for sale. It is going into Jims private collection.
   James Schultz is a very talented artist , a master wood carver, and a very good gun maker but not well known. He doesn't make guns for money. He only makes them for the love of the art and for himself. He has been at Reno before and shown some of his work. I think he learned a lot from Ron Scott.  He is a Dentist by trade.  Talent seems to be a common thing amongst dentists. For example . Bill Shipman, Terry Savage and James Schultz.
   I'm still working on my French double when I feel like it.

Jerry, I guess everyone, but me, understands the beautifully engraved plate that flips up behind and obscures the V notch in the sight blade. It is well done in the extreme, but I don't understand it. Could someone sate my curiosity?
