A friend of mine owns this rifle and is seeking any kind of information that anyone might have regarding where it might have been made? By whom? Or anything else that might strike a chord with them.
Thanks
Dennis

I think it's an E TN rifle but maybe others think other wise. Interesting way the  rear trigger guard extension meets the toe plate.

I think I would go with East Tennesse.  The guard seems to be Bean influenced and the triggers are very plain.  And the curly maple is sorta North Carolina looking.  Nice gun!
kind regards, heinz

It screams E. TN to me.   Do you have reason to think it might be from somewhere else?

:o :o :o... Wow,... good to see a "new" one,... I like 'em,... !! ... I will call Unicoi Co., TN,... without holding in hand is difficult to venture a guess as to the builder,... there are certain "markers" that help,...the almost touching rear T/G extension and toe-plate make me think one of the McInturff gunsmiths,.. they used this a lot,... Now, more things that might help,... Is she full-stock,...?? .... barrel length & cal,..?? ... photos of cheek-rest and lock-bolt plate or washer,..?? ... ramrod entry pipe,...are there any marks such as punched circles on muzzle,...???.... would like to see this one in person,...!!! ... thanx for shareing this one,... Regards, ... C C Fiddler,...

Here are a couple of photos of the barrel markings. Note the crescent figure.
Any of you East TN guys recognize the initials?

When it's not a bother, I'd like to see a profile of the buttplate.  No muzzle markings?  Is the pull as short as it looks or a pic/angle thing?  Thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful rifle!  It`s hard for me to believe the man who built this rifle made and/or inletted that patchbox, though.

I recently read that a crescent is "the heraldic mark of a second son". Although this referred to a family crest carved above the door of a residence.

I asked my friend if the area in front of the nose cap was bare wood or just an accumulation of crud over the years. His reply: "The cap has no metal front. The wood stock is inlet to fit the octagon barrel and is exposed at the muzzle end". Thought that was unusual.

A friend of mine has a William Douglas that has the same typee of nose cap configuration.  Might be more common than we think.

Oh its not unusual to see the open end nose cap. I have seen several rifles made by the Gillespie's in the Mills River shop. I think, IIRC that Harvey G did a few that way and I can't remember the others.

I am not an expert on E TN rifles but I don't think I have seen any from that area with open ended nose caps. If others have I am sure they will chime in here.

Kind of interesting to see how Gabriel McInturff signed this rifle:
http://www.damonmills.com/PS%20Pages/PS%2039/McInturff%203342.htm

The G . M and he elevated C looks close to what is on this rifle. Similar stock profile,  I agree with CCF that this might possibly be a Gabriel McInturff rifle.

;) ;) ;).... Got to go visit her yesterday,.... Do believe she is an original Gabriel McInturff,... maybe even a converted flint,...(cap-lock doesn't fit inlet exactly, and some wood replaced behind hammer on top of lock panel),...poor job on replaced patchbox ,...missing lock-bolt plate...  everything else I believe to be on the rifle when she was built,... neat little Unicoi Co., TN rifle,... always good to see these that have been hiding,... !!! ... Owner graciously allowed me to handle & take photos,... he had recently fired her and says is pretty accurate at around 40 yards,... !!!... enjoy more pix,... Regards,... Wonder if the "elevated "C" was a misplaced stamp strike?

If you look At the McInturff at this url
http://www.damonmills.com/PS%20Pages/PS%2039/McInturff%203342.htm
you will see he stamped the c the same way.
