Death of Jon Laubach **Update on Memorial Service**
« on: July 06, 2018, 05:13:08 PM »
I am sorry to report that I just got a call from Neal Smith to tell me that our good friend Jon David Laubach died this morning. For those of you that may not have known Jon had been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer several years ago and this morning he passed away. There will be a memorial service that will be announced at a later date. May God's peace be with all that mourn his death.

URL to a rifle that Jon made while employed at Colonial Williamsburg, it is signed "J.D. Laubach at Wmsbg. Va. 1977" http://contemporarymakers.blogspot.com/2012/09/relief-carved-rifle-by-jon-laubach.html

So sorry to hear of Jon's passing. I met Jon at the CLA three or four years back he was very cordial as we talked about his  rifles. I am fortunate to own a Jon Laubach rifle built at Williamsburg. When I get time I'll post some pictures of it in n the Contemporary section. My sympathy and prayers for Chris and the rest of Jon's family. Tim

Though I have never met Jon, I followed his rifle making and was a big admirer of his talent and creativity.  We are much diminished by his passing.  Heartfelt sympathy to Chris and all of the family.

I am very sorry to hear that.  Jon was always very generous with his time.   Please do pass on the information about the memorial when you receive it.

Sad news indeed.  Dave Wagner, Gary Brunfield, and now Jon.   I have watched the video of Jon, Chris and Mike Miller forging a gun barrel so many times....and each time I learn something.  My condolences to his family.

I'm sorry to hear this.  Jon was always so kind towards me and nice to talk with.  I knew Gary and Wallace before Jon, and when we met he treated me like an old friend.  I visited him a year or two ago and really enjoyed it.

Very sorry to hear this. I have to say this having survived Prostrate Cancer, get yourself checked, it is nothing to play with. I don't care how embarrassing it is, if nothing else have your PSA checked.

Jon was a real stand up guy. When I attended a work related course in Williamsburg. After visiting the Gun shop and asked too many questions regarding how the tools they used were made. I was told to go across the campus to the tool makers shop to talk with them about period tools. Jon took time out of his busy day to walk me through the work shop. He at the end of the tour invited me to his home to see more original rifles and talk rifle building. He didn't know me from Adam but took the time to help a newby understand more about the real deal. I am sorry to hear of his loss to His family and our community.

I never met Jon, but spoke to him on the phone. He was very giving of his time and talents. He was a good man and lives on in the talent of his son Chris and grandson Ethan. He’s in a better place now. Rest easy, Jon.

I did not know Jon well but I did meet him a few times and had the opportunity to visit his home once to review a collection of original rifles that he was selling. These rifles belonged to a collector that had passed away and Jon was trying to help the family sell the rifles. Jon's home is one of the few that is farther out in the woods than mine. :o I know he was a great builder and dedicated student of the long rifle, it was a pleasure to meet and speak with him.My prayers for his family.

Sorry to hear this. He was a good friend of my neighbor. I think he came dove hunting here last fall. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to meet him.
