Sept 7-9 will be my 21st year for hosting a rendezvous/black powder shoot at my farm in south central Iowa.

You dont have to dress up in period correct clothes, or camp in a wedge, or even shoot a traditional ML. All are welcomed to come and bring a friend.

This is a nice social event. No organized paper target shooting. I have tried that, but people seem to rather just shoot at the 20 or so metal targets that are hanging from 25 yards to 75 yards. The targets are as challenging as you like. From simple hanging log chain at 50 yards, or as large as a 500M ram silhouette target at 75 yards.

Plenty of water, firewood, camping spots and clean outhouse.

Some people come as early as Thursday afternoon. There is a potluck on Saturday night. There is usually no shooting on Sunday. We do a community breakfast and people usually break camp and head for home by late morning.

I encourage everyone who is able to make it. It's a great social event. I attended the 2nd one many years ago and many since. Hope to see some of you this year. Just a hop, skip, and a jump for those of you who live in MO, or IL. We're coming up a day early so we can make a short field trip to the John Wayne Museum.

I will have to take a rain-check for this year. The drive out and back can be some fun - I currently live in west central Ohio. Not too far from Simon Kenton's homestead.

The weather forecast is improving every day. Friday dry. Saturday chance of rain in the morning. Sunday dry. Usually no shooting on Sunday. People eat and break camp

Highway 14 runs north out of Chariton. After a couple of miles, you will see Rt 181. It only runs north. Don't blink or you will miss it. Turn there until you come to the flag.

Maybe we can hook Mike up with Brent. Their personalities compliment one another and it will keep Brent occupied.

It is S45 that comes straight off of 14 or they also call it 260 ave. Brent has not come in years. He will be in Lodi WI shooting this weekend

I was in Iowa last weekend working at my friend's deer camp.

Ticks didn't seem to be a problem, but I have several chigger bites.

It's been a long time since I participated in a rendezvous, and I need to find one that fits my chaotic schedule.

It is not so much of a rendezvous, as a camping and shooting weekend with friends.

For chiggers, I take a paper towel, saturate with vinegar and wipe myself down with it. The acid seems to kill them off.

I will do this after I am in the bush and before it becomes a problem. Seems to keep the rash away.
