Our deer season in NC typically ends on January 1st (for most, if not all, regions, I believe) so it's usually a few weeks after that before the deer calm down. By early December, the deer are so spooked that unless you are on low-pressure private land where they haven't been hunted hard all season, it can be tough to get a bead on one.
Our archery season starts mid-September, and then we have about 1 or 2 weeks in October for muzzleloading-only before the regular rifle season starts.
