Southern Bag Knife

This is the first knife that I have made since I was a kid. The blade is forged from 1085 spring steel. The handle is deer antler, and the bolster is poured pewter. I used the materials that I had. The knife was based on one shown in Jim Webb's book on pouches, horns, and knives. The knife is for a bag also shown in the book. I am planning on making a S.W. VA style horn with a turned base plug and a turned horn collar. I will post photos when I get the whole thing done, but I wanted to share the knife

I really like it. Can't go wrong on that blade pattern with the southern set your putting together. Look forward to seeing the completed project.

The blade is just a little over 4 1/2". The handle is about the same length.

Back in the frontier days , there were probably TONS of knives very similar to this. Nicely done! It does have the look of an old knife found with an old pouch or something. Good job! Nate

Very believable looking knife. Has a certain "charm" to it. Good job Mark.
