For nails I like using sterling wire as it comes work hardend is better for holding inlays. Use the torch to form the blobs on the end and sink then into the swage to make the counter sink if using them for holding inlays Tom has a tutorial on this. I don't bother heading them for doing wrist work. Infact you could use dead soft wire to to that with out trouble just don't short your self on the pilot hole or you will regret it. Montie Mandarino showed me a pair of toenail clipers he had modified for making nails for gold and sliver nails. If you look at one of these minature diagonal cutters on side of the jaw is steep in its bevel and the other side is slight. When you cut the wire it makes one side of the cut steep and the other end of the wire cut has a tapered chisel point "Viola" you have the tip of your nail ready to go.
