Help with longrifle identification.
« on: May 30, 2009, 09:55:31 PM »
I need help identifying the maker of this nice longrilfe.  See photos at http://picasaweb.google.com/steg86/longrifle  This rifle has a GRRW barrel and JJ stamped inside the lock, trigger guard looks hand forged, 59" overall, 41" barrel 7/8 on the flats should be a maker in the late 1970's to mid 1980's, thanks for looking.

Then the N or H (can't tell which it is) on the barrel back by the breach is the gunsmith at GRRW?

Yes it's a very nice rifle, good lines, nice wood and holds well.  I purchased an estate of muzzle loading rifles and this is the third one I've posted, trying to get a little more info on the makers.  I'm not new to muzzleloading (25+ years of shooting and building rifles on the west coast) but most of these makers were just before my time.  I know that GRRW made barrel for sale along with building rifles (two from the estate are a Lyman style and an S J Hawkens) but the marking on the barrel made me think it was an independent maker.  steg49
