I am working on bag #7, and dyed the front panel last night Dark Brown with Fiebing's dye. This morning it looked a bit too red for this project, so I decided to coat it with Fiebing's Chocolate brown.
Guess who didn't take time to carefully read the labels? Duh. Me.
The Dark Brown was alcohol based Fiedbings. The Chocolate was Fiebing's PRO dye (oil).
The end result is shown here. I got a dark green! It has turned increasingly green in the last hour. Brown plus brown equals green apparently. Pretty hilarious when I look at it.
The good news is that I only dyed one panel. My quest to learn leather has resulted in enough ruined leather to build 10 bags.
So....the moral of this story is "Never mix alcohol and oil dyes, as you'll never know what to expect."
God Bless, Marc
