Maker stamps
« on: July 29, 2018, 05:54:41 AM »
Can someone recommend a company that makes/sells custom stamps? I'm looking to reproduce a name and city stamp with the correct font for 1820's-1830's work. Something like the "J. DAY" "LOUISVILLE, KY" (and other stamps) illustrated in the "Kentucky Gunmakers" book.

Try this place https://www.buckeyeengraving.com/

It where most of the pipemakers get their stamps, but I do not know if they make stamps for steel.  So I recommend contacting them and telling them what you want and what the stamp will be used for.

I would get in touch with Infinity Stamps:  https://www.infinitystamps.com/

They're great to work with, produce an excellent product for stamping any material, and are considerably less expensive than Buckeye.  I just had several stamps made up for a long land pattern Brown Bess (as opposed to using the stamps available through Track which are generally incorrect).

If you find out anything useful please let us know.  I look into it a while back and found that the price was to high for me.  ~$600

I really wanted to stamp a hawken I made a while back.  I got a quote for, "S. Armstrong Salinas".  I sent a picture of a  "S. Hawken St. Louis" stamping as a reference.   Based on the quote I gave up on the idea. I am teaching myself to engrave instead.
