I found this photo of Samuel Layfayette Click.  Also, I've included a photo of the rifle made by Click.

None of the stories mention it, but was he African American?  The picture could go either way.

Edited to add: I note that the Wikipedia article says that "Melungeon" is still considered a pejorative term, but I've never run across it outside of a couple history/anthropological books. I'm not using it as such, anyway...

 OMG! I actually thought it meant click the photo! I am not kidding, Never put it with the name. I think what threw me off was this:

Amen,schreck, I am glad I wasn't drinking my squeezins when I read all that. I gotta hand it to y'all, that is the closest I have been to hosing down the keyboard since I been on here. lol
