Stumbled across these at the CLA show on John Schipper's table. I said "Wow, there's some cool guns". Then John said, "they should be, you made them". :P Anyway, it was great seeing some stuff from long ago. These were from my "hand forged iron period in the mid 90's. I was still boiling in bleach back then and using aquafortis.

John shared these with his engraving class. Very cool and great to handle. He shared a handful of guns, but I kept coming back to these. Great examples for our class and though different both felt like "natural fit" to me.

Thanks for sharing, the pictures I took during the class were lost with my last phone.

Brooks, I was looking for some inspiration for an iron box. That Iron mounted gun with the 2 piece box was all I needed to get me over the hump. Look for another with that or box or some variation of it soon.  8)

I used to use that box style all the time back in the day. You can use just one screw in  the upper finial too.

I can't imagine Schippers using these as examples in his engraving class. Probably a "here's how not to do it" example..... I was quite humbled that he still has these and they aren't for sale. He must have had these for 20-25 years now.

If you'll allow me to brag a bit.... ::) The top one shows I could pound out a pretty mean buttplate. :) Trigger guards not so much. :-\ Once all my blacksmithing stuff was stolen I had to move on to my "guns with out hand forged mounts era. ;)

 Never learned to make them well, others make my efforts forging trigger guards look pretty amateurish, which I am. If I were young again, I'd spend some time to learn to do them well. At this point my hammer swinging days are over.
