Where to get 1" 60 cal barrel

Hi Friends, I have a build coming up for the winter, and am looking to use a 1" acf x 42 long.barrel,mostly to save weight for offhand shooting. It will be flint ignition. I have entertained making it a smoothie ,full octagon. Where can I find such a critter?

I second Ron's recommendation to contact Charlie Burton at FCI barrels.  Unless I'm reading the data wrong, his web sight indicates that 1 1/16 inch ATF would be required for a .60 caliber straight octagon barrel, but I don't think there would be much difference in weight from a 1 inch ATF flats barrel 42" long barrel.  You might consider going with a 38 inch long barrel in .60 caliber and 1 1/16 " ATF.  I suspect the weight would be about the same as a 1" ATF 42" long barrel in .60 caliber if it were available.  Something to think about.

1in x42 60 cal. =6.35 lbs, 1 1/16=7.62 lbs.........weights for rifled barrels.

If you're not dead set on a straight-sided barrel, Rice has an Early Dutch Lancaster profile barrel that can be had in .60 cal. I picked one up in .60 cal. at Dixon's in July. It's 41" long, 1.3" at the breech and 1" at the muzzle. Slimmest proportion is at 0.850. They also have a Light Hagga profile that says can be had up to .62 cal. It's about 1.15 " at the breech, 1" at the muzzle with the slimmest proportion at .850.  I was going to have to wait on the Hagga profile, (at least a year), so I took the Early Dutch barrel since he had one sitting on the table.  Not sure of the weight, but it feels like it will be relatively light to carry around while hunting.

Going to a 38" barrel in 1 1/16 would knock off nearly 3/4 of a pound.  Something to think about as would be considering a swamped barrel as galudwig suggested.

I feel sure that a .60 in a 1" across the flats would be no problem. I have a Getz 1" x 42" in .62. The rifle Brian Barker just built for me has a Rice .60 swamped 42" long that starts at 1" at the breech. I'm  sure Jason would do it again.  I also think Charlie Burton or Ed Rayl would do the same as would Bobby Hoyt. You have several good barrel makers to choose from.

I'd go swamped, no reason to fool around with a straight barrel these days unless the rifle you're doing requires it historically.

I totally agree with Mike. When I first started building flint locks I used straight barrels, did so for cost, ease on in letting etc. Once I used a swamped barrel I have not built a rifle with a straight barrel. The handle better,  balance better and best of all SELL better.

I have a couple  flinters with 1" barrels, that are a bit heavy,and was thinking of a refit. I totally understand the rationale of swamped barrels, and have been getting a bit of good natured flack from a couple friends. I definitely like tapered barrels,so maybe I aint totally lost .
 Besides, I like that big ol hole in the end of a long rifle gun. Kinda like the side by side shotgun mystique. Have a goodun guys. Dave 8) 8)

I have a nice piece of curly and some parts, been thinking this is the one for a swamp thing !!
