Kibler .40 Mountain Rifle complete
« on: September 03, 2018, 04:05:41 PM »
Have a few under my belt now, this one passed through a few hands (as an unbuilt kit) before landing in my shop. I put it together through the summer between other projects, and just thought I would take a couple of pictures and post.  it's a .40 cal with very curly Maple, so I used Jim's Aqua Fortis and then a honey Maple stain. 5 coats of hand rubbed Antique Minwax Oil. The metal is in the bright. These were cell phone pictures, and I will take better ones once the Sun comes up today. I will post it in the "For Sale" area as I have a few of Jim's rifles, and I need to fund this habit. As always, all feedback most welcome (Pardon the slightly blurry images, again, it's from my cell)

Love the grain/finish.  Whoever gets that one will have a show piece.
Two thumbs up.

Kingsbury very nice work. Must be the cell phone pics on the ram rod. It looks almost orange on the stripes . Me I would darken it up. JM2C.

Laurel Mountain honey Maple,  http://www.laurelmountainforge.com/stain.htm

Laurel Mountain Forge Antique Wood Stains are concentrated, deep penetrating, non-grain-raising, solvent based stains. They are specially formulated to bring out the rich beauty and figure of any wood. All eight Antique Wood Stain colors are exceptionally light-fast to resist fading and color shift.

I wrapped copper wire around the ramrod and then I heated the ramrod. May be for the next time.

Adrie - Thanks - Great idea - It's not as Orange as it looks - it's a Colonial Maple stain, but against the curl, I can see why it's a flatter color - I'll do better justice with camera images when the sun comes back out - Although I did do a "reverse" stripe with the lighter color being "thinner"  -

Awesome job. Great looking rifle. The figure in the wood really pops.
