Okay today at the gun shop I found a very nice TC Renegade 54 glueing is great the wood is even better the factory rear sight is removed and right in front of the tang is an AO peep sight the butt has a very nice but pad now I know it's a long way from being traditionally accurate but I just want to shoot the problem is no stores around here carry anything for 54 other than basic stuff and that's fine a 54 round ball will do the job but I like a variety I can walk out the door with it for 150.00 should I

You should buy it. You want it and you want someone to tell you it is a great buy. I will be that person. BUY it tomorrow! Do not hesitate. If you can afford it, do it.

You can order all the .54 cal stuff and have it shipped it shipped right to your house.

I say buy it, I have the same rifle, it is a nice shooting gun, and worth more than the $150 asking price,

Ya I knew I should but I have a very uh let's say less than pleasant wife if she don't like it then it shouldn't be done if I do then I have to listen to that smart mouth non stop I know who cares I sold a long bow and have more than enough to pay for it so I told the store owner to hold it I'll pick it up tomarrow. Wow that was a lot harder than it should have been

IMO, $150 is a good price. You can buy any accessory you want, these days, through the computer; so don't let the lack of a local supplier stop you.

FWIW, most .50 cal accessories, like short starters, ramrods, and pre-cut patches, work just fine in a .54 cal rifle.

In real nice shape, as you describe it...if you do your part and take care of it, that rifle won't cost you anything to own.
Go for it and get your feet wet in this sport. At $150.00 plus whatever your cost for accessories and shooting supplies, your entry is a whole lot less than most folks pay.

$150 is a great price, but I still wouldn't buy it. Don't need a gun like that. Unless of course I was going to turn it over for a couple hundred.

Buy it! And buy it quick!
Great gun to start with, and sell it later if you wish for a good profit.
Accessories are easy and cheap to find or make.
For the basics except powder you can be out of Walmart for under $30.

Yep gona pick it up after work can't wait to get shooting all recreational shooting has been banned in my area even at the rock pitt so I'm hoping for some rain so I will need powder, caps, powder measure, pick, balls, patches, cleaning patches and some kind of lube is that about it any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks

Did you put a bore light down the barrel, TC barrels often have an unpleasant surprise hiding inside.

The price is cheap. Make sure there isn't a good reason for that. It could be fine and you got lucky, but make sure. If it's a gun shop they should have a bore light

Just picked it up I put a light down the bore and it is like new who ever had it before me had it set up to hunt with the peep sight and decelarator butt pad which is fine with me so do round balls generally mushroom on deer the reason I ask is I have about 30 lbs of wheel weights I know that's harder the pure lead but the the patch is what picks up the rifling would they work for shooting

I agree. Use pure lead if you plan to cast your own.

Sounds like you got lucky with the gun. The recoil pad isn't a bad idea. The LOP is short on the Renegade. The pad will add to it and soften the recoil too. Is the peep on the tang and compact? If so you got the TC peep. Those have become valuable lately. I've seen them sell for $150.

The peep is mounted on the barrel just ahead of the tang it a low profile Ashly outdoors I believe I'll try to post pics tomarrow

OK, this is just my opinion.

In order:

Powder: 2F genuine black powder, like GOEX. If you live somewhere that does not allow black powder, look for MZ powder.
Caps: #11 percussion caps. CCI, Remington, Dynomit-Nobel, whatever you can find.
Powder Measure: Range pickup. An empty 7.62x39 case holds about 40 grains, and an empty .308 holds about 60 grains
Pick: A welders torch nozzle clearing pick set works absolutely great, and is usually about $5.
Balls: .530 pure lead round ball
Patches: Pillow ticking from the local fabric shop. $5 will get you half a yard. Wash a few times to remove sizing. Tear into strips about 1 1/8". Roll up and tie with a bit of thread from the torn edge.
Cleaning Patches: An old T-shirt will give you all the cleaning patches you would want.
Lube: Spit. Put one end of the cloth strip in mouth and wet it.
Ball Starter: Make or buy
Nipple wrench: Buy
Cleaning Jag: Buy. Be sure it is for .54 cal
Patch Knife: Any good, sharp knife will work. Do not use a serrated knife.
Eye and Ear protection: Buy
Range Box: A fishing tackle box to put everything in, and keep it in reasonable order. Check local thrift stores.

This is NOT a historically correct setup, but it will give you everything you need to get started.
