Just Finished (almost) a double bag for myself

(1/3) > >>

G. Elsenbeck:
A bit different treatment for the flap on this double bag I'm claiming for my ownself.  The flap was tooled similar to 'shell carvings' alot of the famous colonial cabinetmakers in the northeast used on their furniture.  I've been know to carve a few of mine and thought I'd bring this to a piece of leather.  The bag(s) are of 4oz veg tan while the strapping and flap are of 5-6 oz veg tan.  While the bag and flap is dyed a combination of medium/dark brown (trying to exhibit some age) I decided to use black on the welting and entry trim to give a different look.  Overall the bag is approx 7 7/8 square to accommodate my fat mitt getting in the bag without getting hung up.

thats a great looking bag, i love the color

James Rogers:
Nice bag Gary. Like the welt contrast.
I made a few shell flapped bags back in the early '90's after the tang carving and engraving designs on early English fowling guns.
You have inspired me to put one on the list of future projects.

That's a pretty pouch there Gary, the black trim and dk brown just flows together......I like the scalloped flap, very nice.      Frank
