Sealer or finish on bags?

Do any of you use sealer or finish on your bags?  If so, what do you use?

SnoSeal and a hair dryer to warm it all up during application.

I've used atom wax, shoe polish, mink oil and neat's-foot oil.

All the above!  I usually start with neatsfoot oil, though.

Are you trying to waterproof your bags, or just keep them pliable and not drying out?

Dubbin or Neatsfoot.   Sometimes deer tallow rubbed in.
Supple and waterproof is the aim.

I have been using Skidmore's leather product ever since I was a little kid. Have a good leather creme and beeswax waterproofed that I use on pretty much everything I own that is leather. They also make a really nice wood finish, just not super hard finish.

Roger,
A good commercial but period blend would be Montana Pitch Blend. I like to condition with pure neatsfoot prior to any type of wax or sealing coat.
Shoe polish works as a good cover. If you are looking to seal to prevent dye  transfer then a 50/50 mix of mop & glo and water makes a good acrylic sealer.

Thanks guys. That's what I do, too. Was thinking about Eco Flow, but that won't do much for pliability.  I do like their dye, though.

Hi Roger,

I have a Tandy store local, and I do not get warm fuzzies about any of the Eco Flo products, even from the workers there.

My sense of it is that they developed the Eco Flo to be "environmentally friendly".  I prefer dye that works, and keep my hands out of it.

Do some online searches, and you will see lots of comments about that dye.  I don't care for it, but then, I am no expert.

Best wishes, and God Bless,   Marc

Obenuafs Heavy Dury LP.  Great on leather boots. Tried it on my last bad and it seems to have worked great

If your looking for period correct stuff, Bear grease is a good treatment that you can still buy commercially online.
