Bore lights
« on: November 16, 2018, 09:10:17 PM »
I've got an old, drop in bore light that seems to be broken.
Does anyone know where the heck I might have bought this thing?

Exactly what Strong Bear said.

I agree that those little Thill fishing lights work great.  Sort of a one-time-use thing, they go in small bores as well as large.  Good for carrying to gun shows on a just-in-case basis.  Best wishes, and God Bless,  Marc

Marc- why one-time use?  I have a couple and they work perfectly and are 12 years old.  Couple archery hunters had them underneath the nocks in their aluminum arrows to see the path.
The nocks were moveable and locked on to the light, somehow.  When the shot was taken, the bow string pushed in the nock & plunger lighting the arrow for a VERY visible flight.

Traditions also makes a nifty LED drop-in bore light that will do from 40-cal and up.
All of my muzzleloaders will shoot into one ragged hole ALL DAY LONG ... it's just the 2nd or 3rd & other shots that tend to open up my groups ... !

Hi Daryl,

I have used two, and neither time could I get them to turn off after use.  May be user error!  Happens to me a lot.  :-)

Best wishes, and God Bless,   Marc

I was going to suggest the fishing LED light too...cheap and works.

Marc, no idea what you could possibly be doing wrong lol....I use them on the tips of my cat fishing rods and I've never had an issue. I run them for hours on end and shut them off till next time till they die.

The ebay link provided had them for $9 +! I don't remember what I paid for mine but I can assure you not that much! I bought several and was thinking a couple bucks each including shipping. I have been using mine for about 4 years.

I remember that Bill Brockway used a small MagLite, that used a single AAA battery.

Interesting - the ones I have look identical to the ones in the picture. Push the red tip down to light, about an 1/8th inch, pull it out (1/8th inch) to turn off.

Dennis, that price is for 2 including shipping and no taxes.  They are cheaper if you look aroound but I just picked the first one that popped up as an example.   :)

Thank you Daryl.  I guess my two were from the same batch, and once pushed down, they stuck in that position.  At their price, they are not a bad deal for checking a piece before buying.  Best wishes, and God Bless,   Marc

I use a little flashlight that was part of a Chinese multitool.  It uses 2 hearing aid batteries and fits nicely in any bore of .40 cal and larger.  I had to put two layers of masking tape over the lens though, to diminish the light so it didn't overwhelm the eye.

I bought a led flashlight from O'Reilys Auto Parts. A little more expensive but bright as sunlight and will go down all but .22.
