When did Lyman add the engraving to the lock? My old GPR perc. lock is as plain as can be.

Taylor, that's what I'm talking about. Much nicer shape around the lock.

When I was doing this, of course the didn't have the replacement locks. Remember that this adds a lot to the price of the kit (entirely worth it). At the time, I wouldn't do one in flint. Just didn't work that well.

The Lyman "kits" are an easy build, assuming you have just a minimal amount of talent and skills. I have both perc .50 and .54. Since I got the .54, the .50 just sits in the safe. I agree with what several others have said - the Lyman GPR is, IMHO, the best commercially made, mass produced muzzleloader available. Go with the .54, you won't regret it . . .
