Daryl, do you have a title or author for that book?

I think it is this one.   "The English pistol. A pictorial study" by Beebe & Bingham.

Best regards

This is why, when I began building pistols back in 1964, I made a complete lock for each pistol. It is hard work, but well worth the effort.

I have made most every internal part for a lock, but haven’t made a complete one yet. One of my goals.

I had plate, cock and frizzen for a small English style lock, I ended up making everthing else except sear and sear spring, (I had a spare sear and spring in my stock that worked). The hardest part was getting the link for mainspring stirrup right length. Next cutting fly notch in tumbler with gravers.

Pistols are tricky.  I have completely scrapped a couple of pistol stocks at this point.  What I do, it inlet the barrel and lock into the blank, ramrod hole is drilled as well.  Then I draw the handle out by eye, even if I am looking at an existing pistol.  I then largely go by feel.  I have one now that feels great in the hand, but does not flow well or look good.  I see several originals like that.
