doc, won't know 'til the real colonial rifle shows up next week or so.

the plan is to first and foremost LOOK in the newly arrived box and CHECK the contents CAREFULLY to make SURE it really is a colonial rifle, which i know it will be, for sure.

after that i'll stick it all together, no metal finishing, stain the wood with LMF, CYA the barrel and lock mortises, true-oil clear coats, go shoot.  8)

5 weeks, and it took that long mostly because the brass furniture castings weren't available.  well worth the wait.

Wow, 5 weeks, is that all, cause I have one on order and was expecting a good 3 or more months.  With any luck I may get it sooner.  Only been three weeks so far.  From what I have read the wait is definitely worth it.  Also gives me time to build my work bench.

yes indeed.  as always, i take images of the build process and post them.  as of now i plan on a kibler iron nitrate stain under rubbed in tru-oil.

I drifted over to another forum and there was a feller over there that built one of these. Only took him 220 hrs. :o No carving, no engraving. I've been tempted to get one of these so I can build me a quicky and have a gun to go play with. I figure less than 15hrs finished. They sure make a great looking gun.

I guess you can take about as long as you like to put something together.  It takes me about 4 hours to assemble one ready to shoot.  This excludes sanding the stock, polishing metal and finishing wood and metal.  It will take considerably longer for those with little experience.  Carving, engraving, aging etc. can certainly add considerably to the time required.

Give me a call, Mike.  We'll hook you up.  Might even have a scratch and dent for a little bit of a savings.

I don't see how one could spend that much time.  The parts pretty much fall into place.  I think draw filing the barrel was the single longest task and that takes maybe an hour tops.
