Trade Silver Gorget

This gorget has been on the 'to do " list for a long time,it's very folksy which has a lot of appeal to me.It's big for a moon gorget at over 4" across and done in sterling silver as was the original .The original is in the collection of the Boston Fine Arts Museum.My copy is pictured with the original.

That's a very nice piece of work! I hope it lasts as long as the original. Is he shooting at a dragon? Also, what's the little thing to the left of the base of the tree? It sort of looks like a rampant lion.

General consensus is that it's a squirrel but as with all folk art it's open to interpretation  :D .

The stamp on the left is an "interpertation" of a British Sterling Mark of the period.The stamp on the right is my touch or makers mark.

If it weren't for the bushy tail, I would think it was a possum, with the dog at the bottom that treed the little fella.

It looks like to me a depiction of a primitive coon hunter...opossum doesn't have a bushy tail.. :P

That squirrel reminds me of the sabre-toothed one in the animated movie "Ice Age"...(which is hilarious if you haven't seen it, BTW!) I love the folk art pieces, Mitch!
