I was asked who might of built this rifle .. and I'm at lost . So I'm checking here to see if anyone here might recognize this work ...

I've never seen his makers mark but based on the mark and quality of the work a good guess would be Monte Mandarino. Just a guess though. Tim

It seems to be really hard to view examples of Mandarino's work aside from a few pieces on the Contemporary Makers Blog. Anyone have more to share? It would be interesting to see the makers marks to compare to this one. From a few other pieces of his I've seen, it seems like his lock/barrel signatures vary depending on the time period he's reproducing. I haven't seen other good photos of his maker's marks but have seen others with somewhat different "MM" signatures I assume were also Mandarino's work.

I have no idea who made this fine rifle, but I don't believe it was Mandarino. The only stamp I've seen of his was a "MM". I could be wrong, but the overall work just doesn't look like something Monte did.

I knew I'd seen a similar work like this before( been buggin me all day

)....... it's Mark Bokenkamp.He has a piece in The Three Centuries of Tradition Book.

You're absolutely right Mitch. It's Mark Bokenkamp's touchmark. Mark did good work. He also was good at a forge. Too bad he is no longer with us. Tim

My first impression was Monty Mandarino but something didn't click ...

Mark Bokenkamp without any doubt ... The gun in the 3 Century's book has the same mark , the gun pictured is slightly different but same feel and appearance ..

For anyone with access to the "November 1984" issue of The Blackpowder Report, page 8 features an article about Monte Mandarino and also talks about Mark Bokenkamp.
The Mandarino Fowler graces the cover of the December 1992 issue of "Muzzle Blasts" with a great piece written by the late John Bivins. Mr. Bivins also mentions Mark Bokenkamp.
I have to hold the magazine cover out, away from me so I don't drool on it. 24 months of work, $5,000 in gold and nearly 60 FEET of wire inlay???

I came across this forum in a search about carving. This is indeed Mark Bokenkamp's work. Mark was my husband and made very few guns, but all with great aesthetics. He turned from gun smithing to architectural iron work. I have only come across one other instance of his guns and that was last spring. So is great to have found this thread. He died in May of 2016.
