Does anyone have any recent experience with Caywood locks?  Don't see much about them.

The older ones made by Mike Rowe were excellent.  I can't speak for their quality now.  I heard he is not making the locks for Caywood any longer.  Correct me if I am wrong.

Just talked to Mike about 10 days ago.  He is fully retired and not making anything except what he wants to play with.

I have several Caywood locks. In my opinion they are the fastest locks out there. The ones I own are smooth an are excellent sparkers. To me the only drawback to a Caywood lock is one day parts could bet hard to find. I would suggest to anyone that if you have or buy a Caywood lock get you an extra main an maybe frizzen spring an have on hand as a just in case
Nothing beats the feel of a handmade southern iron mounted flintlock on a cold frosty morning

Mine are top notch, but I like the idea of an extra spring or two.

Well said, agree with all of it!
All of my muzzleloaders will shoot into one ragged hole ALL DAY LONG ... it's just the 2nd or 3rd & other shots that tend to open up my groups ... !
