Tim,
I have been using diamond stones for sharpening for over thirty years. An eraser made of real rubber works good for diamond stones. I use 409 household cleaner for cleaning ceramic stones. My stones are just as good as when I got them. I use the stones dry, no oil, no water. When It is time to clean the ceramic stones I just give them a squirt of 409 cleaner and dry them off with a paper towel. Occasionally I will sweep off the diamond stones with a stiff paint brush while I am sharpening.
