Glad you made the video. A picture is worth a thousand words. Your technique is a little bit different then I would have tried it based upon your instructions. Good job.

You are the "Bob Ross" of rifles!!! - The style is "Dry Brushing" and we use it all the time on plastic models to "weather" them and make them look "used" if you Google more on Dry Brushing models and Trains, you can see ways of applying paints and pigments with a brush to high-lite areas and low-lite others.

As always, wonderful job Jim - the art of all this is knowing how much and where to put it!!! - It can easily be overdone.

 Pretty neat, with out the video I would have done it wrong for sure, the mixture looks to be key. Looks like it will take a little practice and patients to get it right but well worth the time.

Are mixing with linseed oil or can this be the same as finish sealer?

This is mixed with Tried and True Oil varnish thinned with turpentime.  You can use something like Permalyn sealer as well.
