I'm not good with the search engine so
« on: February 26, 2019, 01:38:06 AM »
I finished my 40 flintlocks. Has just a little delay but not to bad. I would like yo get it better and I know I need to try different loading methods. I just wanted to find whats the preferred flash hole size. I've got the white lightning liner and a 1/16 in bit is just a bit to big to go in the hole. Is 1/16 What you would reccomend? I would hate to drill it out and find its to big but on the other hand I feel that would be what it needs.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

What do you perceive as a little delay ?  I can't hear any delay at all on mine. Is the lock operating smoothly and fast ?
Perhaps the internals are dragging on wood ?   Is the frizzen rubbing ?   With a white lightening liner , the gun should fire almost instantly....you shouldn't hear a delay.

I fill my pans with prime. I don't have any wide shallow pans, all three are a bit narrower and deeper than some.
It may not be necessary, but oft times I almost never get a flash in the pan. I do not wipe the pan out, nor do I wipe
the frizzen off. I just load and shoot. Sometimes there might be a bit of carbon block the vent and it misses fire, so I
prick the vent, otherwise, I load and shoot, load and shoot - no wiping of anything - well, you know what I mean.
