Back Action rifle by John Krider Philad
« on: March 07, 2019, 07:16:56 PM »
With all this talk of back action locks, I will show you a recent addition to my gun safe.  Well, actual it is leaning in a corner in the living room right now.  My wife has given up I think or is just really tolerant.  I think it is a little of both.

Rifle is marked Krider Philad, bore is in good shape and slugs at .475.

Rifle is in nice shape for its age, nice and light at 7.3 lbs.

Krider made a lot of rifles and many went west. Under-rated in my view compared with better known names like Henry, Leman, and others.

A guy tried to sell me a parts set from a Krider rifle years ago. The stock was long gone, but the parts were in excellent shape. The furniture was iron, and nicely engraved in tight British style scroll style. The barrel was short, about thirty inches long, and an inch and an eighth across the flats, fifty four caliber. It had a very nice back action lock, and a patent hook breech. I was short of money, or I would have bought it on the spot.

I'm a fan of Krider rifles.  Underrated for sure.  His engraving was excellent.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

The Krider parts set mentioned earlier was almost a dead ringer for the hardware on the Tryon back action percussion rifles currently being offered.
