Gee….that is some amazing carving to my eye.  I love the bloodthirsty mammal behind the cheek.  :-)

How is the carving done at the wrist and tang with the "teeth" for shading.  That is a beautiful effect.

Very nice color too.  We need to hear all about it.

God Bless,   Marc

Dave T., thanks, I've got the barrel inletted now on your Bedford!

Marc, Thanks. The stain is Feibings tan & brown leather dye, sealed and finished, rubbed down with BLO and rotten stone, then a coat of black shoe polish.
I used my little 1mm V tool for all the nicks around the carving. The same tool I cut-in all my carving with.

Tom, that is one fine looking rifle.  Your craftsmanship is outstanding as it is on other pieces of your work that has been posted here.  Just one question - where do you purchase those small parting tools?

Literally on the other side of the world, in a small living historic village, I'm talking 7th century timeframe, in western Japan. I found them quite luckily by accident in my business travel back in the 90s. You can still see the price stickers on them! 2600yen for the V tool and 2100yen for the U tool. At the time that was about $20 and $18 USD for them. I should have bought more of them!

Hi,
Unbelievable!  You hit a home run.  It looks so credible and right for the style and maker.  Tom, it is as fine a long rifle as I've ever seen posted on this site.  Well done!

Really like that stock profile. That's a maker I'm not familiar with (Read and heard the name, but never specifically studied) but will be very soon. Great rifle, thanks for the inspiration.

Very fine looking rifle, Tom!  Nice job with the finish, it really makes to carving pop.  Also like your engraving, it all captures the "feel" together.  Thanks for posting.

Bear hunting?  With a .45? Uh, no thanks.
The "beast" carved behind the cheek is supposed to be a folk artsy LION (of England).  ::) The eagle symbolizes the German heritage, and the Indian maiden is American. So it is said.

B.H. I used Permalyn sealer & finish by Laurel Mnt. Forge. I explained some of that earlier in this post. The stain is Fiebings leather dye in Tan & Dark Brown, a couple coats of each.

Thanks for all the compliments. I'm always trying to make the one I'm working on my best one yet, and I'm doing what I love doing.

Mr Caster,
Lovely, just lovely.
I've long admired the folksy style of the Angstadt family. Another quirky Lehigh style.
Also loved the little town they lived near.  Kutztown, PA.
Beautiful job on the rifle.
