fussil barrel weight

I am looking for a fussil barrel . Everything I have seen so far is really thick at the muzzle .
Does anyone make a thinner .62 cal. barrel .
Not a fan of a front heavy smoothbore .

Larry Horrigan will make something to suit you ,all the way up to 60inches or so.

Rice barrel makes a nice thin  oct to round 3 1/2 lb .62

Hi,
Davis sells an Ed Rayl made 48" barrel in 62 cal that is very good for a fowler or fusil.  It is 1 1/4" at the breech and tapers rapidly to less than 1" and then tapers slowly to about 3/4" at the muzzle.  The barrel walls are nice and thin at the muzzle. It does not have a wedding band at the transition, just a simple change from octagon to round. I like that because I can shape it myself.  If I had known about it a year ago, I would have cut it back to 42" and used it on the English fowler I posted. I am currently using it full length on my New England fowler project.

Not sure if that is the one that Rice makes uses 4140 steel or not but Jason has a really lightweight 16 bore made with 4140 steel so he could duplicatevthe thin walls used on one of the early Fowler, I forget which barrel it was patterned after but it's very light weight.

John Getz makes a oct to round barrel that is a copy of a Ravenshear barrel that comes in at about 3.5 lbs.

Hoyt is making my 47" Carolina barrels at   3 1/4 lbs.  I believe copies of my original French Fusil de trait barrels come in just slightly heavier than that, maybe another 1/4lb, but they are much heavier at the breech. The Carolina barrels breeches are 1" and the French barrels are just over 1 1/8". The French barrels are Oct/fading to round with a very fast taper at the breech.

I must give John Getz some credit for my Carolina barrels, we measured Goehring's Carolina barrel and John made probably more than several barrels off that pattern. I sent one of John's barrels to Hoyt to reproduce as he can service my needs.

I think John Getz is up and running. I got my barrel from him in a very short timeframe... 2 months? And it was polished quite nicely inside and out...

I've had barrels from Larry in as little as two weeks.. Most his are profiled/copied off originals

I got a very light one from Ken Netting quite a few years ago. Can’t mention how it was made. 3 pounds 2 ounces.
