Could be part of an oil drip device on an early piece of equipment. Or  something similiar .  Can't see it as a pipe bowl.  Just my opinion......LP

My first thought on seeing that, was that it was a 1960's pot pipe bowl.  I remember when such pipes were being sold as modular units to keep the police away.

I would think the hole is too small to feed lamp wires through and too big for oil dripping.  It was dug at a site where other
indian artifacts, a 1790 coin and some flint tools were found.  Don't crush my dreams :)  I can rule out the pot pipe.  Here's
another pipe that was dug in the same place.

This "bowl" looks just like the axle lubricant cups on my 1870's huge general store coffee mill by Swift Mill. Mine has knurled caps which screw into the threaded bowl.

This is a oil cup from a hit and miss engine. Note that the cap screws into the top of the cup. Unfortunately I suspect you have something like this.

I think you're right.  A bit disappointing

When I saw it was NPT, tapered, in other words, and had a hex nut cast in, I really wondered who had been using old motor parts for a pipe bowl.
Really wish it was a tomahawk pipe.

Gives you a reason to make a hit and miss engine.  You have the first  part.
