Harvey Gillespie rifle and access.
« on: May 01, 2019, 05:14:10 PM »
I recently told Dennis that I was looking for a rifle/bag/horn set.
He told me he would keep an eye open for it and that is what he found for me at the TN show.
The rifle was handed down in the same family for generations.
Now it has found a new home far away from home.
I promised I will treasure it and that is what I do.
It is already one of my favorites in the collection, one of only two with a real history to it.

overall length : 60"
barrel length : 44"
cal. 0,38
trigger pull : 12,7"

Nice rifle along with the accoutrements.  Is there a red hue to the wood or does it just appear that way?  Also, what's up with old Harvey going across the mountain and stealing one of them Unicoi guards for his gun.  Shame on Harvey😁

I would not be surprised that either a customer requested that TN type curl or possibly an owner had it done later. I feel sure it is a Gillespie guard but the only one I have seen with that TN twist to it, an interesting feature.

Richard (the guy who sold the rifle) lives in TN, and as far as I understood him some of his ancestors
did too, partially at least. Maybe that explains the Unicoi guard?

Chris , That's a very nice addition to your growing collection. I'm just a little worried about Dennis . He is either a saint  or off his rocker  not keeping that for him self.  It's an  interesting gun.

Jim, I will rather go along with that saint theory.
As you may guess, it is a little bit complicated to build up a collection of American Longrifles in Germany,
and Dennis has been of help so often, what a great guy!!
I am honored that he found that rifle one of his ancestors built and let me have it.
