English Sporting rifle
« on: June 09, 2019, 09:02:15 PM »
I completed the below rifle for a client a short time ago.  The client wanted a late period half stock English Sporting rifle in 54 cal. O/R barrel 34" long.   the rifle was to be equipped with double set triggers and an L & R Durs Egg lock.  He provided a video of a similar rifle, so I had a real good idea of what he wanted.  We communicated back and forth throughout the build, and he was quite pleased with the end result.   The rifle ended up weighing 7-1/4 lbs.; it is easy to carry and mounts easily.  It will make a great hunting rifle and a standout on the range.

“He was quite pleased” I’m sure he was! I know I would be. As much as I love the American longrifle, there is something about the fine English guns that draw me like a moth to the flame. I have original rifles and smoothbores as well as contemporary rifle and they handle like a dream. As they were hunting guns as opposed to hunting/defense/daily carry guns they tend to be in great shape. Yours is one I would be proud to own.

Beautiful work all the way around.  Really like that flat checkering - 6 LPI?

Love it. Wow that is gorgeous. Reminds me of the checkering and carving on Mike Brooks English rifle  #309, I think it is. (Which I saw for sale yesterday at Friendship).

Hi Ron,
Very nice rifle and undoubtedly a fine shooter.  The stand-up British design cannot be beat.
