Last time I spoke with Ian he told me he requires a deposit, and don't recall what it was. But I do remember he was saying the wait was 5 years. Very talented man.. Give him a call.

Two years ago at the Knoxville show Pratt told me that his backlog got so long that he quit taking orders. Now he keeps a list of customers and builds what he wants. Then he calls down the list to see who wants it. Said he didn't like the pressure of people waiting for him.

I honestly don't see a problem with the question. Given it seems they don't come up very often, how would you find a value range without asking?
If I knew I'd tell you, but I don't collect modern guns, and don't have a clue. But maybe someone here will PM you with an answer?

Plain or fancy wood? Carved or not? Forged hardware or cast brass? Lot of variables possible in Mr. Pratt's work.

For what it's worth, I too am an admirer of Ian's rifles. Whenever I see one illustrated here, I quickly add the images to my Ian Pratt file...perhaps some day...

Here are a few quick photos that Doug P sent me. I had made this rifle years ago but from the photos you might think it was new. Looks to be in really nice shape, probably very well cared for. Neither one of us could remember who made the barrel (45" .40 cal.) but from around that time I'd guess it's Getz or Rayl . Slightly modified Chambers lock, forged hardware, poured pewter cap. Nice curly ash stock - I'm positive I got the blank from Freddie Harrison.

I'm sure I had a nice set of photos I'd taken of this one but they probably perished along with many others back in the Great Computer Meltdown - a terrifying ordeal which culminated in the launching of a computer into deep (or shallow, whichever comes first) space from high atop the roof of our former home.

For that very reason, I engrave the date on the bottom flat of each rifle. Just a suggestion...

Unless you also engrave “no fliers” but then it gets very busy.

It is upsetting that an honest question about gun prices can suddenly degenerate into disparagement of highland pipes, banjo, and Ian's memory power.
I believe that Ian does carefully tune for barrel harmonics and weighs all of his gun sights with this in mind. His shop in the woods of Adams county was selected for its geomagnetic properties and he always tempers with a magnetic north orientation.

Not to mention it is always in compliance with the Golden Mean and the Mayan calendar
Pretty sure Ian consults the Druid at Stonehenge to ensure the barrels harmonics are synced with the rotation of the planets
