Both are great events, but if your focus is studying longrifles old and/or new then Gary has hit it on the head. Access to originals is where it's at, and at the CLA show you can view many great old pieces, then walk across to the other side of the show and see how everybody interprets what they see in the originals. It's an amazing show, last year I set up real fast the first morning and spent the whole rest of the day over on the antique side - didn't realize I had, I completely lost track of time. And I still didn't see it all.

Never been to the CLA but have been attending Dixons for a number of years.  Love the area/location and the fact it's outdoors.  Lots to see and learn, with all the seminars going on, blacksmiths working their trade up on the hill, barrel forging, engravers and the list goes on.  Bring lots of $$$ for all the "goodies" available, plus you have the famous Dixon's store.

And as a nice side trip you have the country's second largest Cabelas store only 15 minutes away.

Can't wait, just a few weeks away and I have my shopping list ready to go.

From a dealer's point of view, Dixon's is the place to be.   There are so many people there looking for parts for their next
gun, or guns.   The CLA show is a great show, and I wouldn't miss it, but it is somewhat a mutual admiration society.  It
does not draw nearly as many visitiors, or buyers to the show.......Don

Don't forget Dietrichs and the Yuengling Brewery.     Smoked kielbasa and a cold beer, heaven on earth.  ;D  And their homemade scrapple, heart attack on a plate, but what a way to go!

Dixon's is a great event - particularly if you want to buy building supplies or attend the seminars.
You'll go through Dixon's in a half-day (if you get there early)
I want to meet the man that can go through Dixon's in half a day... :o

Mike....as a matter of fact I will have one, working on it right now.  A little different than my normal lancaster.
I got inspired by the Chuck Edwards gun on Track of the Wolf which really turned me on.  Check it out early, won't last
long.   We also are hoping to have one of my new Beck stocks along, don't know if I'll have enough time to rough one out
or not............Don

Dan......for so many of us this is like a giant reunion.   I get to see so many old friends and love to chat, talk about projects, etc.     This type of get together is so common in this crazy game of muzzleloading, that is why they have
rencezvous.....it's a fun time.............Don

I was raised in Pottsville and went to high school with the current owner of Yuenglings.  Sure wish I could get the Lager down here!  When I was a teen there was a smaller brewery in Pottsville [Mt Carbon] that made the best Bavarian beer around. It is no longer. <sigh>

I was holding out that I could still go to both Dixon's and CLA.  But I think Dixon's  won't work for me this year.   I'm having my knee overhauled on the 20th and won't be doing much the rest of the week.

I'm hoping that I'll be moving better in time for CLA.  This is Steve Chapman's year to drive, so I get to ride instead of drive.  By that time I should be getting along without being a pain to other people.

Larry,

I am looking forward to seeing both you and Steve at CLA.  Good luck with your knee.

I understand that the Hyatt is filled but if you call the Raddison which is across the street from the Hyatt and mention the show rates they might match the Hyatt's show rate.

David,
After you have attended for 20 straight years in a row you can do it in a half day.  It is a great show, nontheless.  It would be a little far for me this year.

One thing I know for sure is that these last two weeks are crawling?!?!   >:(  I'm even far enough ahead getting ready for Dixon's that the finish won't be wet on the way up this year!
